Meet The Woodlands & Katy Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sugene Kim

houston female plastic surgeon

As one of the few female plastic surgeons in the Houston area, Dr. Kim brings her extensive training from Washington, DC, New York City, and the Texas Medical Center to our community here in The Woodlands. Dr. Kim is double-board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and by the American Board of Surgery; and she is a diplomate of American Board of Plastic Surgery.

She completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital and then returned to New York to complete her fellowship in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

At Montefiore, she had the opportunity to train under Dr. Berish Strauch, a pioneer in the field of reconstructive microsurgery. In addition, she completed cosmetic surgery rotations at New York City’s prestigious Manhattan Eye and Ear Infirmary.

With a keen interest in breast reconstruction, she dedicated an additional year to a second fellowship in microsurgery at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She focused heavily on advanced techniques in breast reconstruction including muscle-sparing DIEP flaps and SIEA flaps. Dr. Kim’s extensive experience in leading edge breast reconstruction makes her an excellent choice for breast surgeries in the Houston area. She is one of the founders of The Institute for Advanced Breast Reconstruction, where she pioneered the DIEP flap procedure in the community setting and was the first to perform DIEP flap procedures at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, Houston Northwest Medical Center, and North Cypress Medical Center.

In addition to her extensive education and training, Dr. Kim has received numerous honors and awards including a “Mother of Pearls Award” for the Best Resident Teacher among 450 residents at the Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Kim continues to value her role as a teacher and considers all her consultations with patients an important opportunity to educate you about your options.

Dr. Kim’s creativity and skill go beyond her work and studies. During her free time she enjoys listening to classical music and playing the piano.
