Lumpectomy reconstruction is the surgical removal of a small lump or tumor. The lump may or may not be malignant. This term refers especially to the removal of a lump from the breast.
The procedure involves a wide local excision that removes the area of breast cancer and a surrounding area of healthy tissue. With confirmation that all of the cancer has been removed, there are options available to rebuild the excised area. This restoration can be completed before or after radiation treatment.
