The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has released new statistics<\/a> that reveal plastic surgery for men is on the rise. Cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in men were up 2 percent in 2010 compared to 2009, and some surgical procedures had significant increases, including facelifts (up 14 percent) and liposuction<\/a> (up 7 percent).<\/p>\n

This trend may be due in part to to aging boomers who want to look their best and stay competitive in the job market. Dr. Phillip Haeck, ASPS\u2019s president, attributed the increase in facelifts<\/a> to men in their 50s and 60s.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the leading edge of the baby boomers. These are really fit people who have paid a lot of attention to keeping their bodies in shape,\u201d he said. \u201cThis generation has paid a lot of attention to how they look, and they don\u2019t want to grow old gracefully.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haeck has also seen men come in for procedures because of pressure to look younger while looking for work. He said men have told him: \u201cYou\u2019ve got to do something to help me because I need a job and I\u2019m afraid I\u2019m going to lose out because people are going to think I look too old.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breast reductions for men, which increased by 6 percent, on the other hand, are most common in men younger than 30, according to Haeck. \u201cFor them it\u2019s a lot of money, but they are tired of being embarrassed by it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

By volume, nose surgery remained the number one surgical procedure for men, and Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox<\/a>, Dysport) was the top non-surgical procedure. The top five procedures are as follows:<\/p>\n
