Eyelid Surgery

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, often called “blepharoplasty” is a procedure that restores a well-rested, alert appearance to the area around your eyes. People of any age can exhibit conditions that cause a tired appearance; conditions such as excess skin, pouching, and fat deposits around the eyes are some of the common indications for eyelid surgery.

Who can benefit from eyelid surgery?

Those who exhibit conditions such as the following should consider a consultation with Dr. Kim to determine if cosmetic eyelid surgery is an appropriate solution:

  • Bags below the eyes
  • Upper eyelids that sag
  • Folds of skin around eyes
  • Eyes that appear puffy
  • Vision problems associated with these issues

How is eyelid surgery performed?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery may involve the upper or lower eyelids. It is an outpatient procedure, typically done under light sedation. Incisions are made in natural eyelid creases or inside the lower eyelids, fat is carefully removed or repositioned, and the incisions are closed.

After Eyelid Surgery – Recovery and Results

During recovery from eyelid surgery, most patients experience some swelling and a feeling of tightness around the eyes. Sensitivity to light and some blurriness of vision has also been reported. After about 48 hours, you should begin to feel normal and the results of the surgery will start to become evident. You should be fully recovered and able to appreciate the results within 2 weeks.
