Skin Resurfacing – Conroe: Dermabrasion & Microdermabrasion

Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion are two quite different procedures that remove the outermost layers of skin to correct issues such as scars, wrinkles and skin discolorations.

Dr. Sugene Kim offers both of these procedures to her Houston area patients with safe and effective results.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a procedure used to remove or refinish the top layer of skin to smooth out imperfections such as the following:

  • Facial scars
  • Tattoos
  • Pox marks
  • Acne scars
  • Brown spots
  • Deep wrinkles
  • Severe sun damage

How Dermabrasion is Performed

Dermabrasion is a method of controlled surgical scraping, performed with a hand-held rotating instrument – a dermabrader – that removes the top layer of skin, allowing it to be replaced with new, undamaged skin. Dermabrasion is performed under anesthesia, either local or general, depending upon the procedure. It is more invasive than microdermabrasion and requires a longer recovery. Dermabrasion recovery requires 7 to 10 days of downtime from normal activities. Complete healing may take up to twelve weeks.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion, – less invasive than dermabrasion, microdermabrasion can improve superficial skin issues like fine lines, poor skin texture, mild acne scarring and skin discolorations.  There’s no need for anesthesia or downtime, which is something many patients appreciate about microdermabrasion . Skin is generally fully healed within 24 hours of microdermabrasion treatments, making it a quick, easy treatment for superficial skin issues.

How Microdermabrasion is Performed

Microdermabrasion is a rather innovative solution for exfoliating the skin. A device sprays aluminum crystals on to the skin in a precisely controlled manner, and a vacuum quickly removes them. The process exfoliates the skin, removing the dull outermost layers and brightening your complexion.
