Recent years have seen a boom in the popularity and effectiveness of laser treatments for skin resurfacing and hair removal. At our practice in The Woodlands outside of Houston, our patients love these treatments because they’re versatile, nonsurgical, and they work! Dr. Sugene Kim offers laser treatments to address a variety of skin types and concerns.
Who Should Consider a Laser Treatment?
At SGK Plastic Surgery, we use the Cynosure Icon™, a laser platform that offers several different devices in a single machine. Many people are eligible for treatment with the Icon thanks to its versatility and ease of customization. You may be a good candidate for treatment with our laser if you’re bothered by any of the following:
- Vascular lesions such as spider veins
- Texture irregularities
- Unwanted hair
- Mild laxity
- Certain types of scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage, including dark spots
Laser Treatment Options
Laser hair removal works by conducting laser energy through the pigment in the hair and into the follicle, disabling or severely limiting its ability to create new hair. Because of this, laser hair removal works best on patients with dark hair and lighter skin. Laser hair removal can be administered virtually anywhere on the body, including the face, back, legs, arms, and pubic area.
Intense Pulsed Light
Also called IPL, this light-based therapy breaks up areas of pigmentation into small particles, allowing the body to effectively process them and creating a clearer complexion. IPL is well suited for patients who are bothered by signs of long-term sun damage.
This is a gentle option for resurfacing and smoothing the skin. In this procedure, laser energy penetrates the skin’s surface and strengthens the underlying tissues, stimulating collagen development and leading to smoother, clearer skin. Other resurfacing options include microneedling and chemical peels.
Fractora™ Skin Resurfacing
Fractora is a versatile laser skin resurfacing treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten skin and reduce the appearance of scars and discolored skin tone. During a Fractora procedure, we use a handheld device with small pins to create tiny punctures in the skin. The radiofrequency energy penetrates the skin through those punctures, heating the tissue below the skin and promoting the production of new collagen. Fractora is typically used to treat the face and neck, but can also treat areas such as the abdomen and thighs. The number of treatments needed is partly based on whether a patient wants a less or more aggressive approach to their concerns.
